Conflict has dominated this region for decades, intensifying with the 1948 formation of Israel as a Jewish state within Palestinian territory. Many Palestinians were displaced and today the conflict and displacement continues. The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is worse than it has ever been. Plunged into internal political crisis, and functioning under the siege-like conditions imposed by Israel, 87% of the population of Gaza are now living below the poverty line.
Our partners in the region are working to uphold people’s rights to the basics of life, regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender.
