Ducks are more than just a noisy addition to the farm yard. In Timor Leste, they provide food and income for a family, improving nutrition and paying for luxuries like education and health care. Your contribution provides a children’s group with 10 ducks and training to care for them. As well as helping their families, it gives the children valuable animal raising skills for the future.

Help protect agricultural training plots in Timor Leste. Fence construction is needed to stop wandering stock destroying the crops so local people can learn to produce their own food. From seed propagation through to harvest, the workers take their new skills home to their families, improving health, nutrition and income.

Mangrove swamps in the Philippines have been cleared for commercial shrimp farming, causing increased erosion, declining fish stocks and deteriorating water quality. The fishing communities who depend on a healthy environment for their livelihood want the mangroves back. You can provide mangrove seedlings for restoration of these ecologically sensitive areas, and help towards crediting your ecological footprint!

Clean water is a lifesaver. Shout a family in Uganda a year’s supply. By contributing to building a rainwater harvesting tank, you ensure a household of six gets safe water, improved sanitation and no longer has to walk miles to collect this essential of life. This programme targets children who have lost parents to AIDS.  Milk, meat, income and fertiliser - goats can make a real difference to families in Uganda. Children get a source of milk, the organic fertiliser helps grow more vegetables and fruit for the family, meat provides additional nutrition, and with the new opportunities from selling milk, the goats offspring, and surplus vegetables, people can afford to send their children to school or improve housing.  Help a family grow its way out of poverty and enjoy better health while saving the environment. This gift does it all! Contribute to the home garden projects of CWS partners in Asia providing seeds, tools, medicinal plants, and training in environmentally sustainable gardening. Family health, nutrition and income improve while the soil is protected from erosion and depletion.

Small loans in India and the Philippines give women the training and finance to start their own small business. Women are weaving, managing market gardens, raising livestock for sale, fishing, operating small shops and more. The whole family benefits with the extra income helping to provide more food, and pay for schooling and healthcare.  Raising chickens provides eggs for the family to eat and to sell for extra income. Chickens are an essential part of backyard gardening projects. They are cheap to keep, can be fed on food scraps, and in return help fertilise the soil. If you don’t have room to keep hens yourself, you can give a family in Palestine the opportunity to do so instead.  You can help provide a basic survival kit for a family of five people. When people have lost their homes because of war or natural disaster, they are left with absolutely nothing. A plastic tarpaulin to make a tent for shelter, basic clothing items, blankets, cooking utensils, a mosquito net and a torch will give them a temporary home and a means of survival until more permanent assistance is available.

Help Dalit and Tribal women in South India raise a cow, improving nutrition and income for their families. Although the Indian government has a programme supplying cows at subsidised cost, this is too expensive for the poorest women. Your gift can help them purchase a cow, which provides milk and with it better health and income opportunities.  Children in places like Gaza have only ever known war and refugee life. A place on a special holiday programme gives them the chance to escape from the poverty and difficulties of everyday life. Give a child the chance to take part in normal childhood activities such as art classes, sports, field trips or language lessons as part of a counselling programme to help them deal with the conflict in their lives.  Equip a carer with the transport and basic supplies they need to look after HIV/AIDS sufferers in their own homes in Uganda. Kit includes medicines, disinfectant, soap, latex gloves, mosquito nets and a bicycle to reach those in need. Long distances, lack of public transport and impassable roads in the wet season make a bike essential to give the care needed.
