Zimbabwe Crisis
ACT international, the global emergency response alliance of which CWS is a member, has launched a US$3.6 million appeal to respond to the growing humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe. More than 4 million people are facing the prospect of severe food shortages over the coming year. An inflation rate exceeding 7,000 percent has had a devastating impact on the general population. The HIV and AIDS pandemic, the impact that restructuring the agricultural sector has had on the overall food security, and a massive unemployment rate, with some 80% of the population considered to be living under the poverty, plus drought leading to the worst harvest in recent years have hastened the economic decline. The appeal will provide immediate food relief followed by the distribution of seeds and training in sustainable conservation farming methods, food preservation techniques and establishing community gardens. The programme will also assist thousands of people living with or affected by HIV & AIDS in families and communities. This will be done through providing training and kits for home based carers, training in psycho-social support and other material, social and emotional support to those who need it. Donate now
