About Us
CWS takes action to end poverty and injustice throughout the world. It has four main areas of work:
1: funding groups working in their own communities to overcome poverty and build decent livelihoods for local people 2: responding to humanitarian emergencies 3: raising awareness and educating within Aotearoa New Zealand 4: campaigning against the causes of global poverty and injustice.
CWS responds to people in greatest need, regardless of race or religion.
Recognising that local people are best placed to understand local needs and find their own solutions, CWS supports the initiatives of community organisations and does not employ overseas staff. Inspired by its faith in God, CWS strives for a just social order through community partnership and service. Established in 1945 by the National Council of Churches, Christian World Service is the Development, Justice and Aid Agency of New Zealand Churches.
